Accumulation of fat in the liver leads to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic fatty liver disease, which destroys liver function. Fatigue, loss of appetite, and weight loss are some of the indicators that a person must watch out for, as these conditions are not usually symptomatic of fatty liver disease. FLDs must be treated immediately, or they can progress to jaundice, itching, and swelling—which can lead to liver cirrhosis and fibrosis.

Although fatty liver disease is not easily treated, it can be prevented by eating a balanced diet, maintaining a proper weight, exercising frequently, and avoiding alcohol. Also, regular liver check-ups are important to make sure the liver is healthy.
